Do you use tracing paper?

Years ago I religiously used tracing paper, but like Julia I'd gotten away from it. Recently I've rediscovered it and and can't remember for the life of me why I'd stopped using it. From the price on the pack you can tell this has been around my sewing room for years. I also rediscovered this little beauty called the "Tack-It."

To use, you just slide the base of the Tack-It beneath the lower leaf of the transfer paper--bring the marking stem directly over the pattern mark that is to be transferred--give the button a light sharp rap.

This will transfer the pattern mark to both layers of fabric.

I love it, it works like a charm.

In other news...

I'm still a little under the weather from the radiation but getting stronger everyday. A couple of days ago I decided to at least get up and put on makeup. I thought I was looking pretty darn cute until I saw this picture...what in the hell is wrong with my foundation? Notice how the lower part of my face looks ashen? Guess I shouldn't try to put on makeup and watch television at the same time and I need to make a trip to the MAC counter...LOL.

Yesterday I went to my bowling banquet and got a chance to wear my TNT jacket made with Walmart fabric. I've paired it with what I like to call my school girl skirt. Obviously my sweetie is not a photographer but I do look cute if I have to say so myself!

Finally, the Set-In sleeve class on PR view is fantastic so far.

  1. I'm sending you "hurry up and feel real good" vibes. WHERE CAN I GET THAT TACK IT THING???? Yes I use tracing paper- still, however sometimes I curse at it when trying to get it to mark decently. Love your jacket picture.

  2. I'm glad you're enjoying the class. I used to have a "tack it"--don't know what happened to it. I do use tracing paper. Continue to feel stronger.

  6. Glad that you are feeling better. MAC is my favorite makeup. Tracing paper is a staple in my sewing room. I heard that you can buy big sheets from Greenberg and Hammer.

  7. I would love to have one of those tack-it thingys. I might actually use it. I guess I just hated the extra time that tracing paper took when I was younger. Maybe I should try it again now that I am so much more patient - ha lol- and mature (well I'm older, I don't know about more mature).
I think you look great. Just think about all your body has been through! You do look really cute in your jacket and school girl skirt!

  8. Thank you for commenting on my new blouse. I know I make way too much about things, it's just that I get so excited. Hope you are feeling really good today.

P.S. The Tack It thing, where did you get that from?

  9. The burda blouse is only four pieces. You ought to see my rendition of the pattern - I know you will laugh, but it did work. Email your address at fayedoll@cox.net.

  11. Since I'm just getting back into sewing, I will probably use tracing paper. I have remnants of my use of it as a teen. I had my tracing wheel examined by an experienced seamstress last month and she said it was in very good shape (and it's at least 35 years old--well preserved!). At the advice of a sewing teacher in a beginning class, we had to purchase chalk, but I'll probably go with the tracing paper.

Someone is going to purchase me some later this month since they know what's out there better than I do.

  13. I would also love to know where to get one of the those tack gadgets!!! (I fear the answer will be that it's old and that you can't get them any more!)

I just saw and commented on your super-good-looking wardrobe over on PR, and "came over" to look at your blog, wherein I read about your cancer challenge. I'm glad you're "fixable" and have the worst behind you!
