I think I'm in mourning

No, there hasn't be in a death in my family. Nor has a close friend died. So why do I think I'm in mourning? The color black. I have so much black in my closet including colors with black.

Lately everything I've wanted to sew...I've wanted to sew it in black. Even looking magazines or at blogs I'm always' thinking, "I'd love that in black!" Do I need counselling or something? Wearing black all the time is quite macabre and I'm way to old to do the "Goth thing." I'm not doing it to look "thinner." There's not enough black in the world for that to happen! LOL. There are three pieces of fabric laying on my sewing table that all include black. There's also the parts to a black sweater I'm knitting and the remnants of a black top I've just finished. There's even a black skirt laying over the arm of the chair I'm sitting in and I have on black pajama pants!

I want to make a couple of black dresses and I need some black slacks. Maybe it's just been the arrival of cold weather. Here in Michigan we do away with almost all of our bright and vibrant colors for the winter season. That's the only thing I can think of. So expect to see looks of black from me in future posts!

  1. I used to worry when my four-year-old child always chose black clothing when we shopped. I stopped worrying when she confessed that she thought she looked pretty when she wore black -- she did. When she was ten, she announced to our friend who owned an upscale women's dress shop that she had chosen black to be "her neutral." Our friend solemnly agreed that black is a good go-to color for many women.

  2. We all have a color that we like more than others. Barbie Blue (teal) is my go to color. I have forced myself recently to pull something else out of my stash. Oh my goodness, it's so hard :) Maybe we can go together for rehab and kick our addictions. At least we can tell everyone we're going to rehab and in the meantime take our black and Barbie Blue outfits and hit a spa!!!!!!!

  3. As always, whatever you make is going to be marvelous regardless of the color!

  4. I'm glad to see that I have good company with loving black garments. I wear a lot of black. I am working on a 3 piece set with black rayon, I have black fabric waiting and I just bought more black fabric.

  5. As a former mid-westerner, I know exactly what you mean about putting away the bright colors for the winter! However, after my move to Florida in 1997, I've found that my wardrobe still includes a lot of Black! Go figure! I think you're a very colorful woman when it comes to the wears you make and I love that about you! Maybe this "winter" change is a good one for you that will inspire us all! I'm looking forward to your very pretty, black ensembles coming up! Good Luck with your sewing!

  7. Oh I love black too. Would it help to think of your black garments as the perfect foundation for colorful jewelry or other accessories? I can totally relate to your situation because I almost made about 15 blue dresses over the summer. I just became addicted to blue, and I couldn't stop sewing it! Finally I realized that I just like blue, and it's really fine. Part of the beauty of sewing is you can go for what YOU want. :)

  8. Just read this and laughed, because I went through the same thing. It lasted about five years and then all of a sudden all I wanted was bright again. By the way you are looking terrific these days, just terrific.
