A Quick Question

How long after you make a garment do you actually wear it? What dictates how soon you wear a garment after you me it?  For me, it's like shopping. Sometimes no sooner than it comes off the machine that it's on my back. Other times it has to hang in the closet, or on the back of my sewing chair for a particular occasion. Let me know.

  1. For me, it depends on the weather and the occasion. I just finished a dress that has to wait until work on Monday to show off. But, had it been a casual top, I would be wearing it now. Then there's the sequin top that it's going to be made special for an upcoming holiday party... It all depends on lots of factors for me, I guess!

  2. Good question. Sometimes I made the garment, wear it a day and then tweak it again. After this, it remains in high rotation. Special occasion clothes get a wear for the occasion and then another time after that, because it's in the special category.

  3. It depends on hw much i like the finished garment and whether I made the garment for me or the fantasy me.

  4. Depends on if "it feels right." I have finished a couple of dresses this year that have yet to be worn. I'd put one on and somehow it didn't feel right for the occasion. I finished a pair of pants this past Thur and will probably wear them tomorrow.

  5. Depends how much fun it was to make. Run into trouble in the making then it gets wardrobe time until i can love it again!!

  7. Usually ASAP which means to work the next day (if work appropriate). Otherwise I wear it right away.

If it was difficult or I'm unsure, it spends some time in the magic closet.

  8. I'm like you...some things hot off the sewing machine and some things weeks later! It all depends on how I feel after the garment is sewn. Like it = wear right away...don't like it so much/exhausted by it's construction = when the ugly memories fade that's when it's worn.

  9. Normally, IMMEDIATELY. If it's workwear, it is probably going to get worn the next day! Casual wear has been worn the same day :)

Sometimes, like with dresses or skirts, it is awhile after it's finished. My work life isn't conducive to dresses or skirts so...

  10. Hi Lady, It's been a while. Most of the time as soon as I finish it, I'm wearing it. But there are others times when it may wait in the closet for a few weeks or even a few months before I wear it.

  11. I wear as soon as possible and that can be as early as when I put in my last stitch
Or as late as it takes me to do all the finishing work

  12. Depends. If it is July, and what I'm making is of heavy wool and destined for the deep cold of January, February, and March, then NOT immediately. If I need the garment for a quickly-upcoming event, sometime only safety pins and duct tape are holding it together on my body until I can finish the job.
