McCall's 5815

I'm enjoying my weekend home alone but have not gotten as much crafting done as I expected. Yesterday I hit the local sewing and craft stores and made a few purchases. My main goal was to hit JoAnns 50% off clearance fabric. I did find a couple of pieces that I plan to use for dresses. One I hope to be cutting later this evening. It's in the dryer now. I managed to get the laundry done and some minor housekeeping. I slept in and unfortunately didn't make it to church. For the rest of the day I think I'll just stay holed up sewing, relaxing and whatever else I want.

So far McCalls 5818 us coming along nicely.

My bow isn't looking quite right so I need to work on it some more

As with everybody else that reviewed this pattern on Pattern Review, my pockets aren't draping either.

After I decide on buttons, I'll just use a smaller version and sew down a pleat on the pocket where I've place the pin. After glancing at the pattern envelope it seems that the proportion is all wrong on the pocket pattern piece and is why nobody is able to get it to drape correctly.

I didn't realize until I couldn't get my pocket placement quite right that because I'd made a 1" FBA I probably should have made my pocket 1" wider. Instead  I adjusted the placement. I may or may not change it. After I insert the sleeves I'll better be able to see if I need to many any other changes. I haven't seen anyone my size make this pattern so it'll be interesting.

So far I'm sticking to the Weight Watchers program. Friday was my first day and I was starving but I stuck it out. Yesterday was better and while I wasn't hungry for dinner I forced myself to eat. They suggest you not skip any meals.

Have a good one!

  1. Sounds like your having a great weekend! I have hypothyroidism too and it's amazing how much better you feel once they get you on the right dose of Synthroid :))) The jacket is looking really pretty - I like the color... Can't wait to see it finished :))

  2. I love that jacket pattern! I have it, in fact, yet unsewn. Maybe you will inspire me to get moving on it. I am a WW also. Have been for many years. It works, IF you follow the program.

  3. You need not make the pockets bigger, but you should shift your pocket placement line on the pattern before cutting. This is especially important for welt pockets. I love this pattern, but haven't made it yet.

  4. I've intended to make this jacket for a year too, haha!! Maybe I should dig it out? I love the color.

I'm glad you found out about your thyroid issue. I was tested a couple of years ago and it was negative too. (I was likewise told to go on a weight loss program.) I've always wondered if it was just a bad test. I think there are a lot of false negatives for hypothyroidism. I'm doing WW online. I'll start my 5th week tomorrow! So far it's going pretty good although I completely flaked this weekend and am WAAAYYYY off plan. :D Oh well. It's a holiday!

  6. Great work on the jacket, I love the red!! I have made one in purple, and you are exactly right about those darn pockets, mine didn't drape either. And good luck on WW...I have been back on plan of late, I saw a number on the scale that I have never seen before and it scared me right back onto the treadmill!

  8. Your new frock is coming along nicely if you ask me. There's a lot to be said for sleeping in. I don't think God would fault you for that even if you did miss church. Sometimes a gal just needs her sleep. I sure need some and hope that tonight is the night.
