Battle Scars and Thursday Thoughts 8/23/2012

I've been doing quite a bit of sewing and I have the battle scars to prove it!

I was pressing a seam while using a sleeve board. I must have zoned out for just and instant and "Yow." WTH. Now I seem to bump, rub and scratch constantly. Add to that I must have slept wrong Sunday night and my back has been hurting every since. But that's not all. Sunday while getting ready for church I stumped my toe, the one next to the little one, so badly that I haven't even been able to put a flip-flop on! I'm thinking of trying to get in to see the doctor today. I celebrated my 55th birthday exactly one week ago and man, it's been down hill every since. LOL.

Since I last posted I've made six pairs of panties, a peplum blouse and two pairs of pants. Pictures will come eventually. I think after a little more than a year I am over my dress phase. Now it's pants, pants, pants. There is a pair of slacks in the August 2010 Burda magazine that Carolyn of Diary of a Sewing Fanatic so generously gifted me that I would love to make. How in the HELL am I supposed to trace the pattern without going blind?? If there is a secret I need it and I need it now!

Thursday Thoughts
  • Reality shows are getting dumber and dumber..if that is even possible.
  • "Here comes Honey Boo Boo"
  • The bowling season has started!
  • One week until my 3rd wedding anniversary.
  • I love my husband.
  • He is a handful.
  • I'm currently reading John Grishams "The Litigators."
  • The actual book, not on a reader.
  • I need to take my embroidery machine in for repair
  • Wish me luck!
  • I think there will be lots of sweater in my future.
  • Yes, I'm going to make them myself.
  • I need to make some dishcloths first.
  • I need more patterns and fabric like I need a hole in the head!
  • I love windchimes!
Bye for now!

  2. My only tip for tracing the Burda pattern, is to go over the pattern lines first with a hi-lighter pen so they stand out from the other lines when you are tracing them.
    Ouch - on the burn!

  3. When Burda increased the number of patterns per sheet, I quit subscribing for 2 years. For myself, I look closely at the pattern shapes on the index pages, note the page letter, color and individual patter piece numbers. - I get this far without a headache, you too? Next I take out only the sheet needed. I even cut them apart rather than having more lines ghosting from below. Along the long sides are numbers. These number correspond to the numbers of your individual pattern pieces but there is a catch. If the index pages wrote "blue" you need to look at blue numbers. I circle each of my numbers and then guide my hand directly across the sheet until I find the same number same color on the pattern sheet. (Still with me?) I use my finger to trace the outline. I've found that I can still get confused and trace wrong lines. That's why I need to memorize the shapes of the pieces at the beginning of this mess. A highlighter is a great idea, but I always think I may make something else from this issue and how will I know which highlighting goes to this project? Anyway, once I trace with my finger, I use Golden Threads Quilting Paper because it's the most transparent I've found. I tape it to my guide sheet (I use repositionable tape for easy removal). I tape because everything else I tried allows the tracing paper to shift while I'm tracing. Burda does an excellent job drafting but I can ruin it during my tracing. BTW, my process is easier to do than to describe. I'm sure you'll find something that works for you. Good luck!

  5. Congratulations on so many things, your birthday, your anniversary(it only gets better from this point on. Trust me, I've been married for 28 years now), all of your sewing, fantastic. The bumps are the bumps. They will go away. All of the important things are going great.

I'm constantly burning my arms with the iron. i've learnt a lot of things in my life but not burning myself on the iron seems to escape me somehow.

  8. Happy belated BDay!!! I don't get burns but I do get pin pokes which leads to a bandage :(

I haven't watched, "Here comes Honey Boo Boo" but the review has me cracking up, ROFL. Shows are nothing like they use to be...now a days it's drama and more drama.
