I too am on the McCalls 6559 bandwagon. I call it the McCalls Mission Maxi. With only two pattern pieces, it's too easy! I made a small FBA and raised the neckline 1". I also raised the armhole 3/4" because I felt it was much too low. It's a little shorter than I'd like but I didn't want to lengthen the pattern because I didn't know how much it would "drop" from the weight of the fabric. All in all, I still love it. I wore this yesterday and got dozens of compliments.
The fabric is either from Fabric Mart or Fabric.com and I'm sure I only paid $1.99 a yard for it. There will certainly be more of these in my wardrobe this summer.
The maxi looks great.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful maxi, I like the print
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I too am on the same bandwagon. Just finished one and starting on 2 more:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great print and this is soooooo pretty on you!
ReplyDeleteMesmerizing to the max! You brought the "wow" factor to your dress!
ReplyDeleteYou do look fab in this dress. I made three last week for myself and one for my daughter. She just rang to see if I would make her another one. How did you finish the neckline and armholes? I find it difficult to achieve a stitch I am happy with and ended up using steam-a-seam which had stayed in place after a wash and cool tumble dry.
ReplyDeleteLove! Great fit and very nice print. Don't you just love knits?
ReplyDeleteI was actually thinking of making one using this print. I too bought a few yards from fabric mart for $1.99. So happy to see you've embraced the maxi trend! Looks great on you.
ReplyDeleteLove your dress - no wonder you got compliments. The fabric rocks!
ReplyDeleteI love it, with that '80s vibe print and the happy blue colors!
ReplyDeleteAwesome dress! Looks great on you and I love the print.
ReplyDeleteLooking good lady!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMaxi looks great and the print is awesome
ReplyDeleteOver the top!!. Great print.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!! I love this dress on you and the fabric is fabulous! I'm on the hunt for some of that!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right, I've seen this Mission style maxi everywhere in Blogland! I'm still trying to cope with the way I look in maxi dresses! It's just me! I always feel like it should be worn around the house only...I know, I'm missing out!!! I do have a couple of maxi's I've made, but only one of them actually made it outside of my house and let me tell you, I was so uncomfortable the entire time. Even after I received a compliment too! I'm wierd and I know it!!
Love yours on you though!!! Can't wait to see the others you create...I can live vicariously through you and yours!! :)
You are right in style, and there is nothing more comfortable and cool in the summer than a maxi dress. It looks fab!
ReplyDeleteThe mission maxi is quickly turning into a best pattern of 2012. Love your rendition. Question. Did you add a bust dart after the FBA or did you ease the difference into the side seam?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
C
