I'm currently working on a skirt refashion. In 2009, I purchased up this size 26, embroidered 100% silk skirt from Avenue--on the clearance rack of course! I am far from being a size 26 (I'm a size16 RTW) but I immediately saw the possibility for a refashion.
I considered several patterns from my stash but finally settled on Simplicity 2605.
The first thing I did was open the side seams. I planned on using the existing hem so left it intact. I also planned to reuse the zipper.
Speaking of the zipper. I've never seen this on a zipper before. The fabric on the botton of the zipper is totally new to me. I don't own a lot of RTW so it could just be me. I think it's really cool.
So far everything is going as planned. I've got to make some slight adjustments and insert the lining.
Hopefully the next post wil reveal the final results and me modeling it!
I do the same thing. I will purchase something like that and make a pillow out of it to gift. I love the skirt !
ReplyDeletePeople who really know how to sew can be so cruel to RTW garments. They rip them apart, throw paper patterns on them and cut them without shame until they resemble nothing of the original design. How Heartless! Just kidding! I need to develop my talents of seeing beyond the original design to limitless possibilities of what I could transform it into. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing. I love to look on the clearance racks for pretty fabrics then take them home and remake them into something I like.
ReplyDeleteI love the sort of Oriental print! Very on trend for spring! Hope you are well! Kiah
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for refashioning a garment. I never thought of purchasing something off the clearance rank to refashion. BTW- Skirt is cute.
