I finally finished this jacket. I've had the fleece since last season but couldn't settle on what to do with it. I'm really loving Cheetah print these days and decided to try to do something with the fleece that wouldn't be so casual. I think the very nature of fleece tends to make it casual.
I've sewn Simplicity 2284 before and decided it would be a good choice because of the princess seams. I pressed the princess open and topstitched on both sides of the seam. The only other changes I made were to eliminate the center back seam and to eliminate the facings and lining. I bound the edges with a braided binding that I found at Haberman Fabrics in Royal Oak MI...62 miles away.
The only problem was that I only bought three yards. Surely three yards would be enough to bind the entire jacket and sleeve. What was I drinking. I was about a foot short on the binding. Luckily my husband was working well south of Haberman's and was able to take a small detour and pick some more up. Whatta man. Next up is a LBD out of Simplicity 2648. I have to have something to wear with it...don't I.
I really like that jacket. I'm impressed that your honeydo could go to the and come back with what you asked without a hand written note. Mine couldn't.
ReplyDeleteLovely jacket and like the binding detail.
ReplyDeleteI really like your jacket, the binding sets it off perfectly. Animal print seems to be a theme right now. I made a top with animal print and I see lots being worn lately.
ReplyDeleteYour jacket is very chic and elegant - and very Chanel! What an amazing use of fleece - cosy and couture! How lovely of your husband to pick up the binding you needed - he's a treasure!
ReplyDeleteLove your jacket! That's wonderful that your husband was able to go by after work to pick up some more binding.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling husband you have! Love the idea of using fleece for something more elegant than the typical fleece coat.
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' that! Fleece is hard to snazz up but you did it!
ReplyDeleteJust in time for our cool weather. Animal print is always great. It's almost a neutral now!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see you wear this jacket! I love the black trim! Fabulous. Thank you for your sweet comment! Kiah
ReplyDeleteOhhh.., what a cute little jacket. Love the idea of adding the trim instead of facing it.
